    Adam John Francis
    April 12, 1983 – May 17, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Adam John Francis, age 42, on May 17, 2025, in a pedestrian traffic accident in Tokyo, Japan.

Adam was born on April 12, 1983, in Neenah, Wisconsin, to Mary Francis and Scott Francis. He grew up in Menasha, and attended Menasha schools, where he developed a love for the Japanese language and culture. He graduated from Menasha High School in 2001 and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business with a minor in Japanese from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2006. During his studies, he had the opportunity to travel to Japan multiple times; his experiences deepened his connection to the country and its people.

In 2007, Adam moved to Utsunomiya, Japan, where he began teaching conversational English with Banana Kids. His time abroad sparked a love of travel that took him across Asia and beyond, including visits to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Germany, before he eventually made Tokyo his home.

Adam was known for his vibrant red beard, quick wit, and deep knowledge of craft beer. He became a beloved figure in the local community in 2016 as the Beverage Director, manager, and the face of Titans Craft Beer Taproom & Bottle Shop in Tokyo, where he shared his passion for beer, art, and culture.

Above all, Adam was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, treasured brother, and loyal friend. He is survived by his wife Aya, their two young children, Komachi, age 8, and Kento, age 5, his parents Mary Francis and Scott Francis, his sister Marla, and his brother Pete.

Traditional Japanese funeral services and cremation were held on May 23 in Nasushiobara, Japan, with family and close friends, followed by a Celebration of Life on May 24 in Tokyo, Japan.

Adam’s presence, warmth, and humor touched the lives of many across the world. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
